Annie Cements, who is currently touring
with the country music group Sugar Land, is well studied, (graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston
Mass with studies in bass guitar and voice), experienced bass player. Annie has been playing bass since she was
13 years old and spending her high school year’s giging around New Orleans with her fathers band, playing clubs
in the French Quarter, Mardi Gras balls, and appearing at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival on numerous
occasions.
I first look at Annie Clements as a
country music bass player, but while I reading about Annie and her music, I found that she is very talented bass
player experienced in many genre of music, just one of them being country music.
Moving back to New Orleans after
graduation from Burklee, Annie joined up with Theresa Andersson who was signed to Basin Street Records and very
popular in New Orleans. From there she joined a southern rock trio called the Sons of William.
In 2005 just after Hurricane Katrina
hit New Orleans, flooding Annie out of her home she got a call for Kristian Bush, half of the country duo
Sugarland and was asked to audition for Sugarland. Not real familiar with country music Annie learned a few of
Sugarland’s songs and auditioned.
Annie got the gig as bass player and
backup singer and is now touring with Sugarland.
Some of highlights with Sugarland
include appearances on their records and in several music video’s, performances on Jay Leno and the Grand Ole
Opry, performing live with Beyonce’ at the American Music Awards and opening slots on KennyChesney and Brooks and Dunn’s tours.
