Growing up Bass Player (Another new drummer)
The new drummer had just moved to town and worked a day job at the same place Ken
did.
Dave was his name, and with him, Ken and I began the process of learning to play together
and develop that groove. This happened back in the basement of Ken’s house, much to the displeasure of Ken’s wife
who never could understand our need to play music.
Dave it turned out was a great drummer and even sang a bit. He had played drums in High
School and in several bands after that. We clicked right from the start. We decided that without Russ we would not
make a good country band so we started developing a repertoire as a Rock and Roll band. Lynyrd
Skynyrd, look out.
A new band needs a new name. After some deep thought, a couple of arguments and not being
very creative we settled on Sundown, after an old song by Gordon Lightfoot. As I have mentioned before, the name of
the band is the way people recognize you and hopefully will come and listen to you. A catchy name is nice but not
all that necessary, for example “The Rolling
Stones” or “The Beatles” ergo “Sundown”.
