Creedance Clearwater Revival

( Proud Mary) (Down On the Corner) (Lookin Out My Back Door)
Though Creedance Clearwater Revival
disbanded before I started
playing their songs they had
a great influence on
me. All through the 1970's
they were very
popular and considered one of
the top rock and
roll bands of
the time.
Stu Cook, Doug Clifford, and the brothers
Tom and John Fogerty met in High School in the early 1960's. They formed a band, calling themselves The Blue
Velvets and play music in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 1967 they changed
their name, and the following year released a self-titled album Creedence Clearwater
Revival, which featured a No.11 hit in “Suzie Q”. Follow-up
allbum Bayou Country went Top 10 and included the No.2 smash hit “Proud
Mary”.
CCR's success peaked in 1969-1970 with the release of
Bayou Country.
Released in January 1969 and becoming a #7 platinum hit, the record was the
first in a string of hit albums and singles which continued uninterrupted for the next three
years.
1971-1972 were tough years for CCR. John Fogerty had pretty much
taken over the band and a lot of bad feeling fostered. Early 1972 Tom Fogerty, Johns brother walked
away from the band. Tom was never replaced in the band and John, Doug, and Stu continued on as
a three piece. In late 1972 however, after relations among the three had become increasingly
strained, the band officially announced the disbanding of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Creedence Clearwater Revival never reunited after the break
up, although Stu Cook and Doug Clifford eventually started the band Creedence Clearwater
Revisited. Formed in 1995 with the intention
of only playing private parties Creedence Clearwater Resisted now performs up to 100 shows a year, and has
released a CD titled “Recollection”.
