Here again I bring you a real working bass player. There are many outstanding bass
players just like Dan but I feel that because of his talent, dedication and work ethic Dan is one of
the shining stars who stands out amongst the rest. Dan is originally from North Carolina and a
graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston he now lives and works
in the New York area.
Dan's primary instrument is the Bass, but he is also a
singer and guitar player, keyboard player whose styles range from Jazz to Heavy Mental. After graduating from
Berklee and doing a short stint in Nashville, he has been a session player in the New Your City
area. Some of Dan's notable accomplishment include playing on movie soundtrack,
commercials, performed with countless bands, toured internationally, and was awarded an American Music Award
after performing on the show. Along with all that Dan has performed on and off Broadway on shows, most
notable, include Toxic Avenger (2009), and American Idol-Green Day- a rock opera (2010).
With all that going on, Dan still finds time to work with other
artist in Projekts Studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Dan also fronts his own rock foursome
called Uncle Pumpkin, featuring songs he has written and reflects many of his musical influences through the years
(See Video Below). If you are in the New York City area you can catch Dan and his band at Arlene's Grocery where they have live music 7 nights a week.
When I first watched the video below, I immediately keyed
in on the bass Dan is playing. Having owned and played Stienberger basses, I have both a 5 string and a 4
string, I have a liking for headless basses. What I really like is their balance. You can
stand on stage, take your hands off the bass and the bass does not move.
The bass Dan is playing is a custom made five string David King D bass. These bass are
custom made by David King in Portland Oregon. Take a look at his web site (he makes headed bass also)
