Free Bass Guitar Lessons  

One on the best sites I have come across for online bass guitar lessons is my topic for to day. Andrew Pouska is the owner and contributor of the site.  He has been a full time bass guitar instructor for 12 years. He begin by explaining that he’s not going to just teach you flashy techniques or today’s newest slap technique. His approach is to first teach you those things which are used 90-100% of the time in music and in bass-playing.

Too many bass guitar players, like me, use the "earn as you learn" technique, and spend years learning to play bass.

This brings to mind a story I hear about a young man who wanted to play bass in a band. He went out and found a teacher and started taking lessons.

In his first lesson his teacher told him that the first string on the bass guitar, the one closest to his chin was the “E” string.

He was told to go home and learn to learn to play all the notes on that string.

When he came back the next day, having learned all the notes on the “E” string his teacher told him that the next string down was the “A” string.  He was now to go home and learn all the notes on that string.

The next day he didn’t show up for class. No call, no explanation. His teacher was upset, but what could he do.

A few weeks later the teacher saw him in the grocery store. He asked him why he quit coming for lessons.

The young man replied “I got a gig”

To all young bass guitar players who might be reading this I say, please don’t take this route. It will take you years of “earn while you learn” to get it right. That is if you ever do.

To be successful as a working bass guitar player you must learn the basics first. Andrew Pouska’s web site can do this you. Follow his instructions and “practice practice pratice” and you can and will gain the success and maybe the fame you are looking for.
